'Grease' Sing-along Party

The Kansas State Council held a “Grease” sing-along party as their Friday night mixer at state convention in May. State St. Jude Coordinator Suzy Winters explains, “We had a fabulous time and raised more than $13,000 for St. Jude at this event. Brian and Mallory, Kansas TV personalities, guest-hosted our event at the convention hotel. We all came in ’50s costumes: poodle skirts, saddle shoes, rolled-sleeve t-shirts, and leather jackets. Everyone danced, enjoyed hearing from our local St. Jude patient, and snapped up some great giveaways and auction items. “We solicited donations from local businesses and got everything from chocolate delights to a half-carat diamond. Entrance to the event was a donation to the hospital, and some of the businesses donated cash as well as prizes. Anyone can do this in their town. People of any age would love it, and we created a Facebook event page complete with a ‘how to do this event’ video so other friends and chapters can have fun and raise big bucks for the kids of St. Jude. While we did this fi rst one right at convention, we plan to do events like this in Kansas as public events to meet people to welcome as members to ESA.”
