ESA Dances for Riley Hospital

The Phi Alpha chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha at Ball State University (Muncie, IN) had a simple goal, to raise money for Riley Hospital for Children. Year-round fundraising efforts and the tireless participation of Epsilon Sigma Alpha during the event produced an amazing result. The chapter’s goal was to raise $5,000, a goal they surpassed by raising an astounding $6,147.24 for the cause!

ESA was one of many student organizations on the Ball State campus participating in the 2016 Dance Marathon for Riley Hospital for Children, which is the only comprehensive pediatric hospital in Illinois. The hospital is also the official project of the Indiana State Council, allowing the care of Riley patients to be a top priority. At Ball State, the marathon event averages an exciting 1,700 total individuals in participation, allowing the student generated mottos of “standing for those who cannot” and “For The Kids (FTK)” fuel their spirits during the marathon. The proceeds from year-round fundraising leading up to the main marathon event allowed student organizations and caring individuals make a difference for the patients at Riley Hospital for Children. The success of the 2016 Dance Marathon campus-wide amounted to $344,801.21 donated to the hospital.

Money raised through both the university dance marathon and high school mini- marathons supports two important programs at the hospital. The magic castle cart provides patients with coloring books, puzzles and other fun treats to spread happiness and smiles. The other is their palliative care program which provides specialized care to children with serious illness and is focused on pain relief from their symptoms to improve the child’s quality of life.
