2018 ESA Hearts St. Jude Raises Over $20,000

Each February collegiate ESA members get creative with their St. Jude fundraising to earn the “Top Fundraiser” title for their chapter and some bragging rights for the year to come. Congrats to collegiate ESA chapters for raising over $20,000 during ESA Heart’s St. Jude month this year!

The 2018 ESA Hearts St. Jude Top Fundraiser is the Delta Zeta chapter of George Washington University. Members of the chapter went above and beyond holding several different fundraisers including ArtFests, CandyGrams, walk-a-thons, and embarrassing photo challenges to reach their total $10,000.

ArtFest, a step by step guided painting experience, is one of the chapter’s most popular events. Local artists or art teachers donate their time to lead ArtFest participants through creating their own beautiful landscape paintings. The event, which they put on multiple times per year, averages $500 in donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They also accept in-kind donations to be sent to the hospital during the events. Keep up the great work Delta Zeta!

Awards are also given for the highest average funds raised per chapter member and most creative fundraising event. The title of highest average funds raised per chapter goes to the Delta Chi chapter of University of Florida who raised over $100 per member.

The most creative event was held by the Psi Mu chapterof the University of Pittsburgh for their on-going canning events for St. Jude. Though the concept of soliciting donations in cans may be familiar, Psi Mu is being recognized for their persistence. The chapter begins holding canning events early in the year at Penguins hockey games and though the individual donations are small they add up. Chapter president Alec Oliverio, recounts having 80 one dollar bills after one canning event. Donating more than $6000 the chapter certainly has seen plenty of fruit from their effort.

A big thank you to our three winners and all of our chapters for the hard work they do all year round to help end the fight against childhood cancer.
