Denton Family Honorarium Endowment

The Denton Family Honorarium Endowment was established by Glenna Denton in honor of her family, July 12, 2003. The first scholarship was awarded in 2005.

Glenna is extremely proud of her family. Her immediate family includes son, James Thomas, daughter-in-law Carol Hines Denton, granddaughter Lauren Ashley and grandson Stephen Thomas. Her beloved husband, John Thomas, passed away September 13, 20206.

2011 – Lauren graduated from ASU with honors in December 2007. She is presently teaching first grade at the charter school in San Tan Valley, AZ. She was married in 2010 and is now Lauren Gates. She and her husband Kyle reside in San Tan Valley.

2011 – Stephen has earned his AA Degree in Fine Arts from Mesa Community College and is now enrolled in ASU Polytechnic for his BA degree. He is established in his own photography business and is employed at a local photography shop.

This Endowment is specifically for a Tempe Union High School District resident which is comprised of seven high schools with an enrollment of over 13,000 students.

The Denton’s have been very involved in the Tempe High Schools but have both taken an early retirement. James is now an Assistant Principal as Athletic Director in a high school in Gilbert, AZ. Carol now has her realtor’s license and is affiliated with a local real estate company.

John was born in Texas and attended college at Oklahoma A & M College, which is now Oklahoma State University. Glenna was born in Oklahoma but moved to Arizona at an early age where she graduated from high school and attended several community colleges in Arizona. Education has always been one of her great loves and she desires to see others have the chance to attend college.

Glenna and John were married in Yuma, Arizona on September 4, 1948 where James was born. Then they moved to Tempe in 1969. John was with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co and Glenna was in the Arizona Courts System. Both retired in 1989 and continue to make their home in Tempe.
Glenna joined ESA as a charter member of the Alpha Omega #830 chapter in Yuma in 1947 and is still active in ESA. She has earned the Fifth Degree of Pallas Athene and is a life active member of ESA. Glenna is presently a member of Alpha Omicron #2520 chapter in Scottsdale. Glenna served both chapters in all the elected offices and was corresponding secretary in 1989-90 for the Arizona State Council. She served as administrative assistant to her sister, Grace Mullenix, who was IC President in 1984-85. She has earned the Fifth Degree of Pallas Athene.

Glenna and John have been members of the ESA Foundation since 1980, where she served as Arizona State Foundation Counselor for eight years and was awarded the State Counselor’s Award of Excellence in 1991-92. Glenna served as a Director of the ESA Foundation from 1997-2000 and for two years was the Scholarship Director. She was awarded the Dixie Palmer Lady Award in 2000 and John was awarded the Stewardship Award in 1995. Glenna is presently a life active member of the ESA Foundation. Both James and Carol are members of the ESA Foundation.
