ESA Supports Comfort Cases

Did you know that there are over 483,000 kids in the foster care system in the US?  These children have little more than the clothes on their backs when they are removed from their homes.  Most of the children are seen traveling with what little they do have in just a trash bag.  Many don’t even have a toothbrush.  Comfort Cases was founded with a mission to provide the essentials to these brave children on their journey to a foster home or await adoption. Comfort Cases provides a suitcase or backpack filled with personal care items for children
in the foster care system as are in transition.

The Virginia State Council Past President’s Auxiliary Leadership conference was held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 in Roanoke, VA. Our Leadership Conference Chair Bev Scott and VSC Jr. Past President Carol Ca
mpbell secured a representative from the local chapter of Comfort Cases to speak at the conference. We thought it would be a great opportunity to learn about this wonderful organization, share in their
mission and give them our ESA support. To this end, we notified our membership in advance of the confer
ence and asked for their help. We provided a list of needed items to create a Comfort Case and asked them to consider supporting this cause by bringing a donation to Leadership.

Shannon Jacobsen of Comfort Cases spoke at the conference and shared the story of this great organization. Once her presentation was done, we surprised Shannon by having the membership bring up their donations. Members brought back packs and duffle bags, personal care items and even a monetary donation. I think it was a great demonstration of the power of ESA members and how we always band together to support great causes and help children in need.
